Kurahashi Harbor Restaurant 2019

A few weeks ago was a special event in Kurahashi Island called the Kurahashi Harbor Restaurant.

This was the second annual event and the previous year it was held indoors due to a typhoon.

This year, the weather was also looking iffy with rain in the forecast leading up to the event. Luckily, the day of the event, there was hardly a cloud in the sky and all of the preparations could go according to plans!

The location for the event was on the south part of Kurahashi Island, near Kurahashi’s 海の駅 (sea station).

It’s funny because the location of this event is usually just a large empty parking lot that fisherman while they are out on their boats.

Crazy to think that a rural village fishing parking lot could be turned into a classy live Jazz Concert catered by fancy food!

Carp Jazz would also be performing this year and was excited to see Yamaguchi-san the drummer again! We were able to collaborate last year and make a dance happen at the end!

A Tokyo restaurant FALO would be catering the event this year and chefs from Hiroshima City/Etajima Island came several days prior to the event to begin to prep!

A theme for Kurahashi Harbor Restaurant is to use local ingredients to make the foods.

There were various dishes ranging from, Kurahashi caught Thai fish, Wild Pig and greens, Spanish-style squid/rice, squash soup, and Kurahashi’s speciality Fritto!

And of course you can’t have a fancy night without some fancy drinks!

And there were local alcohol choices which were made in Kure!

100+ people enjoyed the artfully produced cuisine!

It was surreal being in Kurahashi where the closest convenience store is over 15 minutes away by car and the closest supermarket closes at 7:30pm. Despite this distant location, we were all eating some of the finest food, while listening to live Jazz, with our families, neighbors and friends.

With all of the excitement in the air, people started dancing under the stars while the upbeat jazz continued.
